Geo. Winter Brewing Co. Bock Beer, New York, 1900

A Manhattan brewery on 55th Street, drawn the year it peaked.

What

A vivid 1900 bock-beer poster lithographed by Louis Kraemer of New York for the Geo. Winter Brewing Co., whose brewery stood on 55th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues in Manhattan.

Why

Like every New York City brewery of its day, the Geo. Winter Brewing Co. was extinguished by National Prohibition, which halted legal brewing in 1920.

Notice

The address printed right on the sheet — 55th St. betw. 2d & 3d Avs. — a brewery so sure of itself it advertised its own corner.

“The corner is still there. The brewery is not.”

Format
