Bière Gangloff, Besançon, Jean d'Ylen, 1930

A brewer in a white apron with a stein in each fist.

What

Jean d'Ylen's poster for Bière Gangloff of the Brasserie de Besançon, printed by Vercasson in Paris in 1930; the BnF sheet measures 162 by 120 cm.

Why

d'Ylen took over Cappiello's place at Vercasson, and this is the same idea: one figure, one gesture, the name below.

Notice

The steins are taller than his head, the foam spilling over both, and his red stockings and buckled shoes plant him on the black ground.

“A Besançon brewery, at the very end of the poster age this house collects.”

Published 1930, before the 1930 cutoff; maker Jean d' Ylen; Commons reads CC0 with {{CC-Zero}} {{Cc-zero}} {{Gallica}}. BnF Gallica scan: BnF asks for a licence for commercial reuse of its reproductions; flag for legal sign-off (the house already sells Gallica scans). Mark status dead is the registrar's reading of an old mark; no trademark search was run, so confirm before launch.

This brand was gone from the market. Everything sold here is the art, not the drink.
