Dr. C. Y. Girard's Ginger Brandy, 1860

A certain cure, sold by the glass, for sale here.

What

A chromolithograph by Robertson, Seibert & Shearman of 93 Fulton Street, New York, for Dr. C. Y. Girard's ginger brandy.

Why

The claim at the foot names cholera, colic, cramps, dysentery, chills and fever, and calls the cure a delightful and healthy beverage.

Notice

A hunter on horseback finds a fallen man in the woods and the bottle is already at his lips. The registration date, Jan. 12 1860, is written in ink beneath.

“Patent medicine and liquor on one card, half a century before anyone pulled them apart.”
