Ambassadeurs, Diamantine, Pal, 1894

A rider on a rearing horse against the moon.

What

Jean de Paléologue's poster, signed Pal, for Diamantine at the Ambassadeurs, printed by P. Dupont in Paris in 1894.

Why

The performer appears twice: as the rider waving her top hat, and as a portrait in a gold circle at the foot.

Notice

The moon behind her is a great yellow disc, and the horse rears in brown against a sky of blue and green.

“A stage name with a jewel in it, and a poster to match.”
